Linda Provus McElroy, Ph.D.

Psychotherapist

Welcome

Self-awareness and insight can make everyone's life more enjoyable, comfortable and productive. I am an in-network provider for Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Optum/United Healthcare and Humana. My name is Linda Provus McElroy and it would be my privilege to partner with you on your journey to a better life. Whatever your challenges are, together we can find the right path.

My professional history began with an undergraduate degree in psychology from Duke University, followed by employment at two psychiatric hospitals. Living in Washington, D.C. at the time, I started part-time graduate school while working, and earned my Ph.D. from The Catholic University of America. My training included Family and Couples Therapy, as well as Child Therapy techniques. I moved to Florida in the 1980's, working at Lake City Mental Health Center, followed by several years at Meridian in Gainesville. While there, I was part of a treatment program focusing on victims of child sexual abuse and even published a few papers on the topic.

In 1987 I opened my private practice, offering services to adults, couples and families. Although my original training was in psychodynamic therapy (emphasizing early experiences and memories), I've come to embrace cognitive, humanistic and interpersonal approaches as well. I've also continued to provide Supervision in Psychotherapy for Residents in the UF Department of Psychiatry for over 30 years. In short, I believe my own personal and professional experiences provide a solid foundation for our therapeutic work together.

I look forward to hearing from you.
